New Innocence
Tonight we grow so close,
Will we grow any closer?
We both dont want this,
Yet the lust tells us
We are men and women,
Yet the world tells us we're still children,
Growing up through a phase.
They tell us we shouldn't,
Then they tell us how we should.
These hypocrisies only confuse us
This night is so close,
The final act is starting in motion.
We both question
Is this love or lust,
But we start to lose thoughts
They say innocence is so important
Stay the children we now
Are until the day we wed.
Tonight we became men and women.
We cry in one another's arms.
Wishing to take this night back.
We have grown so much just tonight.
They say we were wrong,
While they pat us on the back.
What are we supposed to feel?
Tonight, three weeks later,
She calls crying,
Such an important event
Yet we both want to find a way out.
They say we weren't ready,
Then they tell us congratulations.
Where do they stand?
Tonight, three months later
We walk each other into the white rooms
Reminded of the innocence we lost,
Not knowing what to do with the new innocence
Sprung from the loss of our own.
They tell us we were wrong to do it,
They tell us we should have.
What do they mean we weren't ready?
Tonight, six months later in the room of the lost innocence
We hear our own sobs,
This time we are in joy.
The old innocence has given birth to new.
Never more do we regret,
Only wish that it hadn't been so soon.
